The Boys & Girls Clubs of Garden Grove offer private recreation programs for boys and girls between the ages of 18 months and 18 years. Five centers offer programs in character and leadership development, education and career enhancement, the fine arts, health & life skills, sports fitness and recreation, as well as an enthusiastic and caring staff. This is the foundation for a variety of learning experiences.
The Family Campus Preschool is designed to promote healthy development of all children with strong emphasis on the value of positive early childhood experiences that foster physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of young children. Our goal is to remove barriers that keep children from getting the best start in life, and to continue to provide support and services to families throughout their children's various stages of development, especially from the ages of 18 months to 5 years.

Job Description:
Under the supervision of the preschool director, the teacher in this program is primarily responsible for a group of similarly aged children. He/she plans, organizes, and conducts activities for the preschool child. The program consists of a combination of educational and recreational activities. Activities include: cooking, science, multi-culture, music, and drama, math, sports, and arts and crafts. The preschool teacher will coordinate the goals and objectives of the program with the preschool director. Calendars, requisitions, and lesson plans are submitted monthly. The preschool teacher will supervise the children at mealtimes, in the classroom, on the playground, on the field, or during field trips.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Provides services in the care, development, and instruction of children in a child care and development program, and supervise Assistant and Associate Permit holders.
- Completes weekly lesson plans, plans and organizes education and recreation activities and programs
- Attends monthly staff meetings
- Participates in staff development training, continues to further Child Developmental knowledge through additional courses, professional training, and child advocacy in the community
- Submits supply requisitions with monthly lesson plans
- Performs related tasks as assigned
- Complies with the Federal / State / Private Funding: Desired Results, US Department of Agriculture Child Care and Adult Food Program; United Way Success x 6; NAEYC Accreditation
- Communications liaisons between the center and the parents. All pertinent information about the center should be relayed through the teacher and/or directly through the Program Coordinator or Director
- Reports daily events, changes in schedule, feeding times, food amounts, child’s health and sleeping habits to the aide(s), so that continuity of care is maintained
- Holds parent conferences in conjunction with completion of the assessment form
Qualifications:
- 24 post secondary semester of equivalent quarter units in early childhood education or child development completed.
- 16 General Education(GE) units; One course of four general education categories required;
- English, Math or Science, Social Science, and Humanities.
- Minimum one year as a teacher in a preschool setting or related program
- Willing to be fingerprinted. Child Abuse Index checked, and TB tested
- Pass health screening and provided documentation
- Established skills in communication, both written and verbal
- Knowledge of, and ability to use, a variety of medians and resources for learning
Certificates, Licenses & Registrations:
- A Child Development Teacher Permit or higher issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing
- A valid California teaching credential or Emergency California Teaching credential
- Seven (7) hours of Health and Safety training and eight (8) hours of Infant/Child First Aid/CPR (possession of current certificate) or completion of such within first 6 months of employment
- A valid California Driver License and maintenance of a safe driving record
Skills Preferred:
- Bilingual capabilities (Spanish and Vietnamese)
- Experience at an accredited NAEYC site

- Position may require sitting for extended periods of time, dexterity of hands and fingers to operate office equipment, reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally, bending at the waist; seeing to review and analyze reports, documents or other reports; hearing and speaking to communicate and provide information to others; speaking to be heard before groups of people; position may require to lift, carry, pull or otherwise move objects between 10-20 pounds
